Things to do in Bath, Maine this weekend, August 11th-13th, 2023

August is still Awesome

Bath, Maine - area summer activities: Some special events for adults (wine, beer, music) and kids (poetry and puppets)!

Summer sails along! Weather has been mostly fine, and looks good for this weekend!

Louisa and Heather at Now You’re Cooking prioritize helping you finding the right (amount of) wine for any occasion! : ) Wine tasting 5-7 on Thursday.

This weekend in the Bath area, kick it off on Thursday at 6pm with your choice of a couple of events. First, at downtown’s Mockingbird Bookshop, award-winning Maine poet Meghan Sterling will be reading from her new book, View From a Borrowed Field (I love that title!). Or, over in Georgetown, at Robinhood Marina, tuck in for a night of music with Chicky Stolz. Enjoy the beautiful harbor views and dinner at The Osprey.

Friday at 2pm, the Patten Free Library is hosting Lindsay and her Puppets. Bring the kids (or your inner child), and prepare for lots of LOLs!

Our Downtown Bath Walking Tour starts at 4pm on Friday and will finish in time for dinner on Front or Centre Street. Wet your whistle first on Friday, from 5-7, when Now You’re Cooking hosts their monthly wine tasting, this time with wines from California and Pine Tree distributors.

On Friday at 6:30pm, the free Summer Concert Series continues with the Volunteers Jazz Band performing at the Gazebo in Library Park. In nearby Brunswick, you might want to check out the 2nd Friday Artwalk from 4pm-7pm. The Pejebscot History Center will be open as well! And the Maine Street Music Theater’s production of the musical “Something Rotten” kicks off this week.

On Saturday morning, from 8:30-12 noon the Bath Farmers’ Market will be at Waterfront Park, as usual. I hear there will be CORN! (Gotta get a photo.) Our Downtown Bath Walking Tour starts at 9:30am.

We had a little sweater weather this week! But not to fear - back to summer now. Our Downtown Tour is running Friday at 4pm and Saturday at 9:30am.

Also on Saturday morning at 11am the Chocolate Church is hosting The Moving Museum - for kids of all ages. Long Match Arts’ professional team of artists invites kids of all ages to create unique, movable, theatrical parades!  Your time together will end with an impromptu public sharing. (Need a photo of that, too.)

Then, explore Front and Centre Streets’ business district. Many downtown stores are running summer sales including Bohemian Rose and Sweet Escape . Spend some time (and money) shopping!

On Saturday at 5pm, more free music, this time at Waterfront Park, featuring Sonja and Friends, with funky jazz, soul, Latin, Gypsy Swing, French Musette and Middle Eastern music. As always, thank you Chocolate Church and Main Street Bath (and sponsors!) for bringing us all the free music all summer long!

Also Saturday night, it’s not too late to get tickets for the Friends of Seguin Island Fundraiser at Long Reach Kitchen. Festivities begin at 5pm. You can bid on Embark tix in the auction!

Harrison Ford says “If it rains on Monday, I’m gonna have to pull out my whip.”

On Sunday, August 13th, head to Popham Beach or Reid State Park - you might see a humpback whale like local photographer Darryl Hendricks. Or, join our Neighborhood Walking Tour at 11am. (Or both!)

You can just make out Mandy and Sean of Union & Co. getting interviewed inside the Grant Building during opening week!

On Sunday at 7pm, Union & Co. hosts modern/classic country artist Charlie Marie in concert in the Grant Lot (pictured above). Union & Co. is an awesome Bath business -primarily a flexible work and event space, but so much more. They just relocated after leading a magnificent restoration of the spanking new/old historic Grant Building in the heart of downtown Bath (a groovy pic at right). Drinks will be provided by Vessel & Vine’s mobile bar, Jackass Annie. Love them!

Finally - RESCHEUDLED from last week - on Monday, August 14th at dusk (around 8:30pm) is the first of two Movies in the Park (pictured above) sponsored by Main Street Bath this summer! First up the OG - Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark. (Pre-game it on Monday - with a Bissell Brothers beer tasting from 4-7pm at The Osprey in Georgetown ).

Enjoy your (long) weekend in the Bath area! If you would like to receive this weekly info directly in your in-box, sign up here. A new “This Weekend in Bath area” posts every Wednesday or Thursday.
