Things to do in Bath, Maine this weekend, August 18th-20th, 2023

It’s a very Bath, Maine weekend…

Bath, Maine - area summer activities: some truly, very, very Bath events!

Mid-August brings some special local events - all are invited to join in!

This image from Robinhood Free Meetinghouse does not do the setting justice - trust me!

Kick it off Thursday at 7pm at the Robinhood Free Meetinghouse with the DaPonte String Quartet. Beautiful music, in a quintessential New England setting, sure to be a magical summer evening!

On Friday at 4pm, try our Downtown Bath Walking Tour - we will finish in time for you to take in the Bath Art Hop which runs from 4-7pm. The monthly gathering of artists on Front Street will dazzle your eyes and challenge your wallet - what to buy!? As a part of the festivities, Now You’re Cooking hosts a wine tasting, and Union & Co. hosts indie folk singer Jason Anderson from 7-9pm in the brand new historic Grant Building.

Also Friday evening at 6:30pm, at Library Park, the free summer music series continues with Bath Municipal Band. Bring a picnic!

Rocky’s, our local Ace Hardware Store is having a reopening celebration on Friday and Saturday all day, with give-aways, raffles and more. Rocky’s staff will likely be celebrating the most, after undertaking a months-long store makeover. : )

On Saturday morning, from 8:30-12 noon the Bath Farmers’ Market will be at Waterfront Park, as usual. There will be more CORN! (I got a photo.) Our Downtown Bath Walking Tour starts at 9:30am.

Also on Saturday, from 10am-1pm, the 10th annual Kindness Day takes place in in downtown Bath. This event is truly Bath - it started in 2013, the brainchild of a local high school student. Individuals and groups come together to offer simple acts of kindness on Front St, including pets to pet. Now You’re Cooking will offer another special event - an Edible Flower Demonstration with Borrowed Flower Farm in West Bath.

Also on Saturday, nearby Brunswick hosts its annual Outdoor Arts Festival from 9am-5pm.

On Saturday evening at 5pm, more free music, this time at Waterfront Park, with New England band Red Tail Hawk, featuring fusion, alternative, rock and pop. As always, thank you Chocolate Church and Main Street Bath (and sponsors!) for bringing us the music all summer long!

Also Saturday from 5-8pm, Wiscasset’s Maine Tasting Center hosts “Battle of the Boards” an event from the Wiscasset Chamber of Commerce. Contestants are assembling appetizer boards - attendees get to eat them! Buy your tickets here.

On Sunday, August 20th - rest! Or…if you can get out on the water - it looks to be a fabulous day! The Maine Maritime Museum offers guided boat tours on the Kennebec. (My family has a little power boat and we took it to Perkins Island on the river last weekend - and made a little tour promo video on the way back!)

Any time - prepare to send the love of Bath and Maine elsewhere by doing some shopping downtown for souvenirs, many of which feature the dazzling Bath, Maine city flag (circa 2013). You can get some great gifts at Maine Street Design Co., Wilson’s Drug Store and Soggy Dog, all on Front Street.

Looking ahead the next weekend - the Coastliner train service debuts on 8/26/23!

Enjoy your weekend in the Bath area! If you would like to receive this weekly info directly in your in-box, sign up here. A new “This Weekend in Bath area” posts every Wednesday or Thursday.
