Bath, Maine - area summer activities
August is looking Awesome! We have had a nice little break in the hot and humid weather. We have a full slate of walking tours (scroll down for the schedule) this weekend as well. And two of the most cherished area annual events are taking place! Read on..
This weekend in Bath, kick it off on Thursday, August 3rd at 5pm with a reception at the Popham Art Show, held at the Popham Chapel in Phippsburg, Maine, just down the penninusla from Bath. Jean Wyman, one of the planners said, “If you love the beauty of Popham and would like something that reminds you of it every day, this is the Art Show you want.” Well put, Jean! All kinds of original art inspired by Popham Beach and the area will be for sale. Meet the artists, too! The show continues all weekend, from 10am-5pm, every day.
On Friday at 6:30pm, the free Summer Concert Series continues with the Maine Pops performing at the Gazebo in Library Park. The Maine Pops are one of the largest community bands in the state, with close to 70 active members! Well, luckily (did you know?) the Gazebo can hold up to 80 musicians!
On Saturday morning, from 8:30-12 noon the Bath Farmers’ Market will be at Waterfront Park, as usual. I hear there were squashes, new potatoes and baby artichokes last weekend!
Also on Saturday from 10am - 3:30pm, Sagadahoc Preservation, Inc.’s beloved annual House & Garden Tour takes place. Buy tickets online now for $40 in advance, $45 day of at the Winter Street Center, 880 Washington St. This is your 1/x year chance to get inside some of the beautiful historic homes in Bath, and some of those we feature on our Neighborhood Tour (running Sunday at 11am). SPI is one of the powerhouse nonprofits we have to thank for the beauty of Bath today - please consider supporting this important fundraiser.
On Saturday at 5pm, more free music, this time at Waterfront Park, featuring Mississippi born solo artist Dexter Allen, with R&B, soul & funk music. Thank you Chocolate Church and Main Street Bath (and sponsors!) for bringing us all the free music all summer long!
Or try some comedy on Saturday at 5:30 & 8:30pm at Taste of Maine restaurant in Woolwich (home of the giant rooftop lobster and the World’s Largest Lobster Roll) - come laugh with Maine comedian Bob Marley…and of course, eat lobster!
On Sunday at 6pm finish the day with yoga in Library Park. An hour-long class is led by local teacher (and friend) Johnna Stanton - only $15 to drop in. Bug spray and yoga mats are provided!
Let’s go ahead and promote a special event Monday! Monday, August 7th at dusk (around 8:30pm) is the first of two Movies in the Park (pictured above) sponsored by Main Street Bath this summer! First up the OG - Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark.
