Bilbrey Tours, premier Texas tour company, comes to Bath, Maine!

Embark was delighted to welcome Bilbrey Tours to Bath, Maine this week. Meg met company owner Rhonda Bilbrey at ABA Marketplace this January and Rhonda was delighted to add Bath, Maine to an afternoon as the grand finale of their Atlantic Coastal Maine Tour.

Embark took their almost 40 guests on a guided bus tour around the city, seeing sites as varied as the historic Bath Iron Works shipyard, with future Navy destroyers under construction, to the mansions of Sea Captains and Shipbuilders in Bath’s Washington Street Neighborhood, a Federal Historic District.

The group got off the bus for a couple of stops - first, Bath’s Waterfront Park on the Kennebec River, and next at Library Park.

Both stops allowed an in-depth look at the places that bring Maine history to life - as well as offering easy to access bathrooms and other amenities.

The Kennebec River’s Carlton Bridge, pictured at right and below, when opened in 1927, marked the completion of Route 1 - from the tip of Flordia to the tip of Maine.

Guests listen to commentary about the Kennebec River and keep their eye out for jumping six-foot Atlantic sturgeons - a sight to behold in late spring and early summer.

Afterward, guests hit the shops and cafes in Bath. It being the last day of their trip, they knew exactly how much room they had left in their suitcases for those souveniers!

Ice cream from The Fountain and souveniers from Reny’s were a hit! A rest stop in front of The Corner Bookshop (one of four book stores in Bath!) was just the ticket.

From left to right above: A stop at Bath Sweet Shoppe, loading up at Reny’s, group pic on Front Street. Funny story—the guest front and center is holding a hard-to-find to-go iced tea; she had to visit a few cafes and restaurants before she found what she was craving! Maine vs. Texas for ‘ya!

Driver Rob and Tour Leader Connie on Bath’s Front Street, a federal historic district and vibrant shopping destination. Bath has dedicated bus drop off/pick up spots and plenty of two- and four-hour parking spaces for longer stops.

Connie called me “precious” in this Facebook post about the group’s day in Boothbay, then Bath! That’s the highest praise in Texas, I believe!

Whether you choose a walking tour or a group bus tour with Embark Maine Tours, Bath is an easy, accessible, authentic stop for any visit to coastal Maine! Contact us for more information and to slot us in for a hidden gem 💎 look at Maine history.
