This weekend, it’s all about events celebrating the launch of the wooden ship, Virginia. Commercial Street will be filled with maritime fun all day, Saturday, June 4th, with the launch itself taking place at about 4:30pm.

It’s safe to say RESEARCH is the main focus of the off-season here at Embark Maine Tours. I am grateful for active history organizations that fueled my learning all winter long with events, lectures, exhibits, book signings, etc.. Especially the Maine Maritime Museum (pictured here) and the Patten Free Library’s History Room.
A big milestone in the story of Bath came in 1847, when our community went from being a town, to being a city. And we haven’t looked back since.
Bath, Maine has always been a hub for Fourth of July festivities. The Lincoln Telegraph of 1839 describes a bit of that year’s celebration.
in June 1864, a year prior to Juneteenth, a milestone to end slavery was felt profoundly here in Bath and throughout the North.
A tour participant recently asked why all the same street names pop up in all New England towns.
Bath’s participation in the Civil War is honored in this marble and granite monument on Centre Street.
Of course the depth of the river varies, but NOAA charts give us a pretty clear picture of what it's like at Bath, about 160 miles south of Kennebec's headwaters at Moosehead Lake, and 12 miles north of the Atlantic Ocean.
